Transgender Europe is looking for a part time Administration Officer for Transgender Europe and it’s “Transrespect versus Transphobia Worldwide” (TvT) research project.


Transgender Europe (TGEU) is a European non-profit, non-governmental umbrella organisation working for the full equality and inclusion of all trans people in Europe.  The network includes trans and other organisations that support or work for the rights of transgender/ transsexual/ gender variant people across Europe. The mission of TGEU is to support and strengthen the trans movement and to be a powerful lobby and advocacy organisation for trans rights in Europe and beyond.

The “Transrespect versus Transphobia Worldwide” (TvT) research project is a global research project with partner organizations in all world regions. It consists of three sub-projects: Trans Murder Monitoring / Mapping the Legal and Social Situation / Contextualization and Evaluation. Relevant aspects of these sub-projects are the mapping and analysis of transphobic violence, the mapping and evaluation of the legal and social situation of trans people, a survey on trans people's experiences with Transrespect and Transphobia, and the providing of recommendations for international, governmental and local institutions.


Job Description

The vacancy is for an administrative officer to provide administrative support for Transgender Europe and TGEU's “Transrespect versus Transphobia Worldwide” (TvT) research project. The officer will assist the lead researcher of the TvT project in organisational and administrative tasks and will assist the Executive Director of TGEU in administrative matters helping to implement the work program of TGEU.

  • A 20 hour honorary contract starting on March 1st 2012 ending on December 31st 2012 with a possibilty of renewal and regular employment in 2013 if funding can be secured

Key responsibilities are

  • communicative support with partner organizations and other parties involved in the TvT project,
  • to monitor deadlines within the TvT,
  • to administer, utilize, and organize TvT research data
  • to maintain and develop further the TvT website (CMS system),
  • to prepare meetings of TGEU,
  • to assist in organizing the TGEU Council in Dublin,
  • support in the financial administration of TGEU and facilitating reimbursements  
  • to put content on the websites of TGEU


You should have a strong interest and expertise in activism regarding trans human rights. You should also have a high commitment to the aims of TGEU and the TvT project. Your application should include a letter of motivation and a CV. Please do not send copies of degrees and certificates. You will be asked to provide this at a later stage in the process.

Necessary Requirements

  • Excellent administrative and organizational skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Own Internet access and good software and Internet skills (CMS, Word, Excel, Skype, etc.)
  • Experience in finance administration
  • Experience in working with and for NGOs
  • Ability to comprehend and partake in complex working processes
  • High frustration tolerance and ability to work under emotional pressure (hate crime data!)
  • Familiarity with intercultural and international approaches
  • Ability to work in a team
  • Ability to travel abroad

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience with trans activism
  • Experience in working as a volunteer/with volunteers
  • Verbal and written communication skills in German and/or Spanish 

 

Work placement

TGEU does not have a staff-office at the moment and the officer is expected to work from home. There will be face to face meetings during the time the position runs, however most communication and work will be virtually.
