Open call: Consultant – CJEU trans case law publication & training materials

TGEU is seeking a skilled Consultant to develop a publication on recent case law of the EU Court of Justice (CJEU) relevant to trans rights and create an accompanying training deck for lay trans activists. The goal of this work is to increase legal literacy among trans communities by breaking down complex legal concepts into accessible, practical knowledge. The consultant will conduct online training sessions to ensure effective dissemination of the materials.

Key responsibilities:
- Research and analyse recent Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) case law relevant to trans rights, including the cases of Mirin, Mousse, Shipov, and Deldits.
- Draft a comprehensive yet accessible publication (30 pages) explaining the legal implications of these cases for trans people in the EU.
- Develop a training deck tailored for lay trans activists, breaking down complex legal language into clear, practical information.
- Conduct a 90-minute online training session to equip activists with the knowledge and tools to understand and apply the case law in their advocacy efforts.
- Work closely with TGEU’s team to align content with community needs and ensure clarity and accuracy.
- Provide additional consultation or revisions based on feedback from TGEU and community members.
Profile of the successful candidate:
- Strong expertise in European human rights law, particularly in relation to trans rights and CJEU case law.
- Proven experience in translating complex legal concepts into accessible language for non-legal audiences.
- Excellent writing skills, with a track record of producing high-quality publications, reports, or educational materials.
- Strong communication and training skills, with experience delivering engaging online workshops.
- Fluency in English.
- Commitment to trans rights and familiarity with issues affecting trans communities in Europe.
Timeline:
- Call for consultant: 25 June – 9 July
- Decision and contracting: by 11 July
- Kick-off meeting: by 18 July
- Drafting of 1-3 cases and development of training decks: by 7 Sept
- Review draft text and training decks: Week of 8 Sept (8-12 Sept)
- Finalisation of draft text (incl. Case 4 AG Opinion) + training decks: by 30 September
- Final review: by 10 Oct
- Design: 10-24 Oct
- Publication: November
- Launch event: 10 Dec 2025—International Human Rights Day
- Training: Q4 2025
