Joint statement: Bulgaria’s Supreme Court opens the door to legal gender recognition, ending years of judicial deadlock

At the end of July, the Supreme Court decided in favour of four trans applicants seeking legal recognition of their gender identity. The ruling aligns Bulgarian practice with the Court of Justice of the EU, enabling changes to gender markers, names, and personal identification numbers.
